THE GOAL:
Design an app for restaurant Nilro that allows users to easily order and pick up their order
MY ROLE:
UX designer designing an app for restaurant Nilro from conception to delivery
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high - fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility and iterating on designs.

User Research: Summary
I conducted interviews with a potential group of users to find out what they wanted from a restaurant app and what was a problem for them.
Key findings of common problems with other restaurants:
-
Hard-to-navigate menus
-
Lack of detailed information of the dishes
-
No option for other languages
User Research: Pain Points
1
TIME
Lack of time and desire to cook at home
2
MENU PRESENTATION
Poor meal descriptions, confusing, small font, only in the local language, etc.
3
ACCESSIBILITY
Platforms for ordering food are not equipped with assistive technologies.
User Persona

Dimo Dimitrov
Age: 58
Education: Master's Degree in Bank Management
Hometown: Village next to a big city
Family: Wife and cat
Occupation: Banker

"Life is not endless, we must enjoy it"
Frustrations
-
There is no time for cooking and market after work
-
Tired of the work day and the long road, he would like to eat something ready
-
Hard to order, needs glasses to read
-
Оften the menu is not translated into English
Goals
-
Professional Development
-
Rest after a hard day's work with a nice dinner
Dimo is a banker who works in a foreign country whose language he does not know. He uses English in his work and is fine with it in everyday life. He lives in a small village close to a big city. He and his wife like to order dinner during the week when they get home late from work. Often after work and travel they do not have the time and desire to shop and cook. They would like to have a quiet evening and rest. But often the menu is not translated into English, there are no pictures of the food, and the app is difficult to use.
Problem statement:
Dimo is a busy employee who needs a convenient food app with an English menu because he lives abroad and doesn't speak the local language.
User Flow
I created a user flow to anticipate the needs of users when they interact with our product. Showing the typical user journey in an app or on a website that one of our users would take.

Information Architecture

Information architecture is all about organizing the contents of your designs for excellent user flow.
Sticker Sheet

Wireframes

In the process of coming up with ideas, my main goal was to make it as easy and convenient as possible for the user to find the food they want to order

The main purpose of the home page is to quickly and easily find the food that the user wants to order
Easy, quick access to the lunch menu offer
Easy access to the menu, explained with pictures and text

When you enter the menu page, for example Salads, each dish will have a picture and description in order to clearly and easily choose a dish.
Each dish has a picture and a detailed description to make it clear what the customer is ordering.

Low-Fidelity Prototype
The low - fidelity prototype connect the primary user flow of building and ordering food so the prototype could be used in a usability study with users.

Usability Study: Findings
I conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high fidelity prototype and revealed what aspect of the mockups needed refining.
Round 1 findings
-
The user wants a convenient and standard way to order food;
-
The user requests a page for confirming the order;
-
The user wants the menu to be presented uniformly. The lunch menu confuses him because it's different.
Round 2 findings
-
The user wants more information about the dishes;
-
The user wants to be able to add or remove products to a specific dish;
-
The user wants more details about the delivery.
High-Fidelity Prototype
The final high - fidelity prototype presented cleaner user flows for ordering food and checkout.
Takeaways
WHAT I LEARNED:
While designing the restaurant Nilro app, I learned that the first ideas for the app are only the beginning of the process. Usability studies and peer feedback influenced each interaction of the app designs.
